Resistance when coasting

      Hello everyone!
For the past few months I have been using my run around car a lot, a 1996 Holden Astra City(also known as an Opel/Chevrolet Astra) the car has 260,000 kms or around 160,000 miles.
Over this few months I have noticed a growing resistance when the car is coasting along; sometimes it begins right after taking my foot of the accelerator other times a good 30 seconds after. It’s not a constant force either it is sort of like a subtle lurching feeling. This immediately stops when I reapply the throttle which makes me think it is not the brakes.

Could this have anything to do with the transmission because the tranny that’s in it is the original one and is starting to slip, weaken and jerk so is probably nearing the end of its life.

Any suggestions you have would be great!
      Thanks.

Yeah, I’d guess it is the transmission misbehaving. Still when it does this you can coast to a stop and check for a hot wheel. BTW, they sometimes can be very got so be careful. If all the wheels feel about the same you have eliminated brakes.

It does sound like it may be an issue with the transmission. More info on dealing with transmission issues here.
