Hoping someone can chime in here and give me a heads up if I need it and dive into this and find out I just wasted time. My car has 194K rounds on it right now and its starting to make some ugly noise when going over bumps. I looked at the parts I am replacing and they look rusty and the boot that is covering one of the LCA bushings is torn. So, I figured why not replace them all. For all 3 $99 shipped didn’t sound too bad.
I guess my main question is will I be able to do this with regular tools, or will I need a little more power that is beyond my strength limits?

You are going to need a press according to autozone.com click the link to check it out. You will need to generate a username and all that stuff.
I think that’s only for removing bushings. The new parts I have include new bushings, so I can toss the parts I replace.
According to what I read on http://www.autozone.com the new ones need to be pressed in as well. Try checking the site out. They have alot of online manuals for free.
What may seem like an easy task can actually be a nightmare. Replacing bushings can be a real pain and most times it requires the use of a press as pointed out.
Own a VW MK4 here and to tell you the truth its better to just buy the LCA as one unit with new bushings all ready in it! You say “The new parts I have include new bushings,” then yeah thats a great deal. I shop at autopartsway and its $112 for just one control arm. If your just chucking out the old arm and bolting in the new one then you can do it with basic tools and a impact gun air/electric.
