They are correct about the rotor screws. I never reuse them but it does make reassembling the braking system alittle easier.

As for the tire wobble, did you torque down all the lug nuts to the correct specs?

Personally I tend to reuse the screws, just to help hold the rotor flush on the hub while I’m reassembling everything. It’s true that they don’t really serve any purpose after the car is assembled, but you don’t have to remove them after you re-install them. I’d agree with dreamer2355 on the lugs not being torqued correctly causing the wobbly feeling.

Actually, the more I think about it, I only reuse the screws that I can remove without destroying them. Where I live the roads are turned into the Bonneville salt flats at the first forecast of snow, regardless of prevailing weather conditions, so rust is a way of life around here. Often as not those screws are so rusted in place that I either have to remove them with an air hammer or a drill. If I have to remove them that way, I throw them out, otherwise I’ll put a dab of anti-seize on them and put them back in.

Yeah the rotor screws aren’t important, but like said above they do come in handy for reassembly of the brakes if they aren’t destroyed. I tend to reuse them when they’re not destroyed. GM was smart to make them a Torx head instead of a Phillips head that strips so easily, so usually they aren’t a problem. If they don’t have the screws I’ll just thread a wheel nut on by hand after I put the rotor on to hold in place while I bolt the caliper bracket and caliper in place so everything isn’t flopping all over the place.

+1 on the screws there from the factory to hold the rotor in place as it moves down the assembly line.

I am with Shaun_300, most of the time I don’t see the placement screws in there, so I will also just thread a lug nut up hand tight to hold the rotor i

Yeah, I like the GM torx setup very good idea.

A good thing to do if the car is newer and you happen to have the wheels off for any reason, remove the screws before rust sets in, put anti-seize on them and reinstall. You would be surprized at how well they come out 4 or 5 years down the road if you do this up front. But I agree, a lot of people just leave them out, no real harm.

I don’t see how they could cause a wobbly tire though.

Did you put the screws back in the right holes? The need to go into the recessed holes. If you put the rotor on the wrong way the recessed holes wont line up and you will get the vibrating you describe. Check it out, and let us know.

Escorts in early to mid 90’s used screws on the drums for rear brakes also. I would reuse until it was too much of a pain to get them off with impact driver, then shook my head and said, WHY!

Awesome. I can’t wait to ditch those screws. I still can’t get 1 of em out from my back left wheel 🙁
