Replacing a fuel tank

I am replacing the fuel tank on a 96 Honda Accord LX. Majestic Honda no longer lists the tank, which would have been my first choice. 🙁

On Partstrain, I see ones for Dorman, Spectra Premium, etc. Any companies I should avoid or any you recommend?

      Thanks.

Honda online shows that tank for $551.55 It’s part number is 17500-SV4-A31. Here’s the link: http://estore.honda.com/honda/parts/view-honda-parts-catalog-detail.asp?m=1996-accord-2-lx-5mt&sn=&b=B++0301&dl=#

I’ve usually found Dorman parts to be acceptable in other makes, but as Eric says Hondas seem to prefer OEM.

Good Luck and keep us informed.

You can find the Spectra tank (259.99) and Dorman tank (527.99) both at Advance Auto Parts. Order online and use this coupon code and save $30 on either tank and get it shipped free to your home http://advanceautoparts.tellapal.com/a/clk/bgsCk

Personally I’ve replaced the tanks on my 1988 Lebaron convertible and 1990 Dodge Caravan with the Spectra tanks and have had no problems. Ended up having to also replace the pump and gauge modules also due to rust. If you need those also order them separately and contact me and I can get you other coupon codes to save on those also. My contact info is below in my signature.

Many thanks for those replies. Yes, I am a bit concerned about Honda vehicles love for OEM parts. However, these posts are encouraging.

I’d say to go with an aftermarket tank and an OEM pump/gauge unit if budget allows. You really want to drop the tank as little as possible. 😆

I was thinking that too, aftermarket tank and OEM on the pump. Great minds think alike. B)
