I’m having an engine replacement done on my truck and the engine my shop has located for me is $1000 and has 160,000 miles on it. Interestingly it took them two weeks to find it, and it isn’t even in my state. Aside from that, the price seems astronomically high in my opinion, because I have spent enough time in junkyards to know an engine with those kind of miles could be had for $300. I was budgeting everything based on the entire job costing less than $1500, but this pushes it up to 2 grand and I also need front axle u-joints, rear brakes, and all new tires for inspection so it is a big deal. Am I right, or is that a fair price?
