Replaced fuel pump, no sound on start! 98 Suburban

The only vehicle we have has been down 2 weeks. The fuel pump was installed yesterday but when you turn the key to the on position you don’t hear the pump make the tell tale sound of whirring up at all which tells me that it’s not getting any power. When the old pump died (I wonder at this point if it was actually broken) I checked the pump relay, it was making sound and the fuse is good.
This summer my SUV had a full tune up, plugs, wires, distributor and cap replaced – mechanic put in some ridiculously expensive fluids that went into the gas tank, throttle body etc.
I am at a total loss as to what to check/do next and it has become emergent that I get this truck going NOW because my son is sick and has been missing several days of school because I haven’t been able to drive him when he feels better later in the morning. It’s causing very serious problems with the school.
I don’t have the $$ to have it towed to a shop and pay someone to look at it. The pump and some other parts that needed to be replaced was $370 oh and this is the 3rd pump we have replaced :angry:

Are you checking voltages at the driver module?
A. That it’s getting the proper input voltage
B. That it’s sending the fuel pump the proper output current for duty cycle?

Again, this is great for getting generalized help here, but if you have something odd-ball you will want to check a chevy/suburban specific forum as well. Likely they’ve had 95% of all the oddball issues that make/model/year can have already posted and solved.

Well, just discovered that a volt light we have is broken :pinch:
I have a volt meter, but it’s for PC’s which does me no good in this situation. I wonder if you can rent volt meters from Advance Auto…

the problem was not with your fuel pump. some simple diagnostics would have saved you a lot of time and labor.

q: what is the year/make/model/engine of ye’ vehicle.

q: how did you arrive at your determination that the problem was your fuel pump?

q: what other diagnostics have ye’ performed

Did you test the pump module before you installed it in the tank? Just because it’s new doesn’t always mean it is good and it works.

I think Harbor Freight sells a DVOM for about $20 and it would help a great deal in your situation. Here is a video that I did on fuel pump diagnosis that may help you.
