      Hello all,

I am about to commit to removing my camshaft, followed by removal of the head. I am following instructions on an autozone repair guide (it’s pretty swell actually). However it has this disclaimer:

Since the thrust clearance of the camshaft is small, the camshaft must be kept level while it is being removed. If the camshaft is not kept level, the portion of the cylinder head receiving the shaft thrust may crack or be damaged, causing the camshaft to seize or break.

Is this a reference to thrust bearings? I have an automatic trans btw. I am just not sure what is means. Any general tips or advice for removing camshaft are welcome and appreciated.

      Thanks.

From what I read, If the camshaft is not removed level the cylinder head may be damaged.
see if any of these links helps.

I believe what they are trying to tell you is loosen the bolts that hold the cam in place evenly, otherwise it could put stress on the Cam.

most manuals will tell you which sequence to undo the bolts.

Thrust bearing is in the transmission and has nothing to do with the cam.

Thank you both. I think I was just over-thinking the disclaimer.
TRY NOT TO BREAK ANYTHING WHEN YOU TAKE THINGS APART!–is essentially the point of such things I suppose. Also, I mentioned the transmission because while I was watching a youtube video about thrust bearing posted by ETCG, he mentioned something about them being found in manual transmissions. Anyway. I figured it out how to get it off. Almost forgot to stick a bolt through the cam gear on the exhaust side. Thanks again for the help fellas!
