      Hi guys,

Can anyone advise me on how to completely remove caliper carrier which has a stuck bolts? I mean properly welded together to it. It seems that the brake discs have not been changed since brand new, the car has 70 000 miles on it and 10 years old, so it’s been siting there for a while. Impact tools do not work. I’ve lost my breaker bar on it already and it did not even wiggle. Guy in the shop tried air tools, nothing. It just spins and jumps on it. Any ideas on how to get it out the hard way and install a new one?

By the way, I don’t really have loads of tools at my disposal, so keep that in mind 😛

im assuming you mean the slide pin bolts on the caliper. if its stripped hammer on a smaller socket heat up the bolt not the boot shock it with some pb blaster (its not flamable) and wham with the breaker bar.

The slide bolts are fine. I did manage to get the caliper up and remove pads, but to get the disc out, you need to take off the other part on which the caliper is sitting on. These bolts are stuck, E20 Torx socket, the slide pins are hex key 7mm. This is repair questions and I;m asking how to damage something … oh well, they will not move.

dont you just love it when their a torx? um id actutally heat the aera around where the bolt are get an impact driver and take your bit and hammer and turn but if its stripped then youll have to cut off the heads pull the bracket out and work on with a vise grip getting the old bolt out. again with heat pb blaster and vise grips. thats my best advice

It’s often referred to as “Brake Calliper Carrier” in UK, but nevermind that. My best bet will probably be to cut the bolt and try to get the screw out. I’ll buy the braket and calipers anyway, so to get them new and I’ll clean them every 6 months or so, to keep them clean 🙂 This bolt has thread lock on them and was there 10 years straight. I’ts pretty much welded to the rest.

                Thanks for the reply.

Well I don’t have a torch … 🙂 There is another thing, this bolt is in such state, that I can’t even tell where the head is. I’ll try to “rent a torch” or something.

you can get a small propane torch. only use mapp gas.
its hotter than propane.any home center should have it.

I too recommend the torch. You might also try this method as a last resort.

I just ran into this the other day. I knew I was replacing the caliper anyway so I just broke the bolt head off and hammered the carrier off.
