Removed an engine today and have an AT question

I removed the engine today to my 92 ford escort lx. I had a bit of struggle getting it out but it eventually came.

I noticed the impeller? shaft? to the trans in the middle ( the thing that stings out and connects to the engine) has a center piece which comes i thought seemed a bit loose, so i gently pulled it out, and the entire thing came out. It didn’t look broken or anything, but was surprised that, it just came out. I pushed it back in as far as it’d go, and gently turned it, which then seemed to fit and engage the transmission,.

Is this normal?

Sounds like you are describing an input shaft. Other than that, don’t know if Ford used such a thing. Was it splined? perhaps pics could help.

here it is, whats circled in the pic, is it ‘removable’? i was able to pull it out gently, to my surprised the entire rod came out, once i pushed it back to its default position it engaged the transmission and was able to tell due to the resistance felt from gently turning it

Just wanna make sure nothing was damaged during the removal of my engine.

Its normal. Some model of Taurus where bad about shearing the end of that shaft.
