Just gonna go on a rant on remanufactured parts from the chain auto parts stores. Recent experience is with power steering pump on a GM. The splash shield wore a hole in the PS return line. Daughter drove home from school with low fluid. Fixed line, bled the system. The pump was noisy & could feel the wheel pulse when turning so figure the pump was fried. Reman pump#1 from Auto**** was noisy but steering worked okay. Pump # 2 noisy as well. Pump #3 quiet. I thought great! Daughter drives car a few days then complains steering is hard to turn. Car has 170Kmiles so figured rack was fried. She needed the car quicker than I could fix it (old & slow) so took it to a garage I used to work at about a century ago. Quoted almost $600. Had him do it. Called, told me bill was $200 something…pump #4. Pump had a whine to it but steering worked great. Now pump really noisy again. Thinking of just finding a used one & trying that. Any one find a good remanufacturer that they have good luck with?

Went to the salvage yard this weekend to get a power steering pump. They were busy so it was pull your own part if you wanted it that day. Been awhile since I’ve had to slug through the yard to find my part. 3 Impalas had the engine already removed. The 4th had the cap off the PS pump & was full of water. Luckily, a yard worker asked me if I need help & had a pump pulled in the garage so I got that one. The fluid looked good & the body wasn’t painted black so I figured it was OEM. Long story but ended well. No pump noise & steering worked great. After 4 reman pumps, a wore out junkyard one fixed the problem. What is the deal?
