When rebuilding a cylinder head, how important is it to reinstall the valves, springs, guides, etc in their original locations? I have read from various sources that ANY engine components need to go back where they came from. My second question is why is that important? Is it simply a matter of parts wearing together or is there more to it?
My cylinder heads are currently at a machine shop for a valve job. After a recent visit I suspect that all the parts were thrown in a box. I don’t know if that is the case, but if it is, I probably won’t be going back.
As this is a more general question, I don’t think the type of car is too important, but just for the record it’s a ’91 Camaro with the 3.1L LH0 V6, 159,000 original miles, 4L60E Automatic.
