Rebuilt transmission- replace torque converter?

I bought a rebuilt 4L60E for my 2001 GMC van. The warranty reads that the torque converter must be replaced or warranty is void. I wish they would have told me that when I ordered the tranny so I could have ordered it at the same time :S Is this really necessary?

Would it be feasible for you to return the transmission to the rebuilder along with the old trans yourself? That way you should get the correct one as well as returning your core. It may save a few bucks on shipping.

Here’s the latest.
Turns out that the input shaft is different than mine so I’m out of options with this transmission and it is going back to the seller. I’m demanding a full refund including shipping. The seller has escalated the case for eBay to arbitrate. They will be reviewing all of the back and forth and I expect after reading all of illogical rants they will side with me. One memorable quote from him: “VIN don’t mean nuthin.” How this guy had a 100% rating is the biggest mystery of all.

I sent him a message with some pictures of the two transmissions and he agrees that it is not for my vehicle. He referred me to his parts supplier who helped me put together a rebuild kit and I’ll do it myself with Hiram’s videos. He’s even offered to help me along if I hit some snags. Great guy!
