Sorry for the type-o. What I wanted to say is – “I like to do a little research on projects that I haven’t tackled before”. Typing too quick…
January 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #453020You’re not going to need that ball joint press kit for this job. The ball joint is serviced as a complete control arm. You have to lower the rear subframe to get the arm out. It’s a pain to do, but not overly difficult.
January 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #453021+1 on replacing the entire assembly as that is how I believe they are serviced. Thanks for the post 3SheetsDiesel.
January 13, 2012 at 11:00 am #453022Thanks for the pointers guys.
However, can the ball joints be pressed out without lowering the entire subframe and removing/replacing the entire control arm? I already bought the ball joints and I don’t see a reason why they can’t be.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks again.
January 13, 2012 at 11:00 am #453023If the ball joints are welded into the control arm, then no. You would need to replace the entire controll arm.
Aftermarket control arms do come (in most cases) with serviceable ball joints.
