I purchased Eric’s Accord clutch replacement video (even though I have an AT) it has been really helpful to this point. I have an engine brace set up to control the tilt of the engine and I have a transmission jack set up to lower the transmission after I move it away from the engine. I just want to make sure I’m doing this right. There are about 7 bolts on the top of the transmission case and another 8 on the bottom. Then there are the 3 on the rear engine mount that goes into the transmission on the back side as well as two more transmission case bolts on the back side. Does that sound right?

If any of you have done this job I appreciate your help in advance. I am just trying to get the transmission pulled away at this point. Probably 30 minutes from separation at this point.

Not that doesn’t help, but I appreciate the response.

Are the bolts you talking about all 14mm head? sounds like you are splitting the case halves. Thats way to many bolts for the bell housing. Make sure you unbolt the torque converter and leave in the transmission.

That is exactly what I am worried about. Have I blown it already? The case started to leak with all the bolts I have removed so far.

So I will go back and put the bolts back into the transmission case. At least it sounds like I haven’t gone too far yet.

You might get lucky and have it seal back up. Let’s hope. Sounds like maybe a job a friend that has some experience can help you with. There is a lot of small things that need done when removing an automatic to ensure you won’t spend a bunch of money needlessly. Good luck.

Thanks again for your help. I got all 15 bolts tightened back up and no leaks. So I will get the right bolts out now. Thanks again.

Well Transman304, if you read this I wanted to thank you again. I installed the rear main seal and have everything put back together. After 80 miles at various speeds, etc. everything in bone dry. I am not excited to do a rear main seal again in the near future though. I totally understand the labor charge now to replace that $20 seal. What an adventure. Glad I did it though. Thanks again for your help.

You are very welcome. So glad everything worked out for you and thanks for the update. Now you have R&R experience with a transmission the next step would be transmission repair and overhaul. 🙂
