I have a 2004 F150 that I recently had in the shop because the rear end tends to shake or bounce when I come to a complete stop.It will sit and shake for a few seconds then stop but it does it almost every time I stop. After 2 days in the shop they claimed that the spark plugs were bad causing a misfire thereby causing the rear end to shake so they were replaced but this wasn’t the problem however they did need to be changed. After 3 days the conclusion that they came to was that the spark plugs going bad caused my catylic converters to go bad which was causing the shake. I went and talked to a few exhaust shops for pricing and they all said that they don’t know why that would be the cause. I have searched the internet and all the things that i have found have to do with the vehicle shaking when accelerating or slowing down but nothing about at a complete stop. Any help would be much appreciated.Thank you!

If indeed you did have a bad misfire. That will destroy a cat.
raw fuel in the cat will cause it to melt down.

So it is when you come to a stop and a complete stop? Or now
          just the complete stop?

If it shakes when at a complete stop this is great. Throw that sucker into
park, set the E brake. crawl under the rear and observe. (Probably would want
to do this with a cold engine/ cold exhaust)

If something is indeed going wrong in the rear and bouncing around, you really don’t have a whole lot of options as to what it can be back there.

Because trucks do not have a ton of stuff in the rear that can really bounce as you describe, I would direct my attention more toward the front. In my experience motor mounts typically are what I go for
          first.

As I say, If the car is bouncing around so much that you can tell it is bouncing and identify the general location, you should easily be able to locate the issue.

          Good Luck!

Thank you both for your responses, I had it in the exhaust shop today for an estiment and they were very confused with this as well and so they decided to take a look…. Turns out it was just the spare tire being loose under the rear end so all we had to do is tighten up the cable, Kinda embarrassing but its one of those things that you never think to check. Thanks again!!

Yep, I’ve run into things like that in the past. Never rule out the obvious. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Thanks for the updates and for using the ETCG forum.
