Hi all,
I have a grumble from the rear end of my front wheel drive car at between 50 and 60mph. The noise is only related to speed, change of direction or acceleration does not have an effect. I’m thinking wheel bearing(s) so jacked up the back and rotated the wheels at varying speeds as best as I could by hand. Both sides had a very slight clicking noise but I’m not sure if it is something in the drum brakes. To double check I jacked up the front and the fronts ran nice and smooth other than the smallest of run out on the discs.
There isn’t any play in the rear wheels and they both run fairly well. I think it is wheel bearings but it’s at that awkward time when they haven’t got bad enough to fully diagnose, yet now I’ve heard the noise I’m listening out for it again every time I drive the car and hovering around 50mph to see if I can isolate exactly where it is coming from.
All four tyres changed a year ago, front pair worn quicker than rear as expected and tyre pressures as they should and always have been. Drum brakes been washed out with brake cleaner, bushings all nice and tight still.
The vehicle is a UK spec Ford Focus 1.6 Ti Vct Manual Petrol
Anyone had a similar experience? I’m driving myself nuts.
