In all honesty I would probably just let it be, i’ve heard that differential fluid usually lasts the life of the vehicle unless you have a leaking seal or something which could lead to contamination

If your truck has a lot of miles on it, it will have degraded and should be changed, be sure to clean the magnet as it will be covered with metal fragments.

Check to see if it is a synthetic gear oil, regular oil will be thicker and stink something awful. If the oil is synthetic, it lasts 2-3 times longer than the cheaper oil.

When I used conventional gear oil, I changed it every two years and never had any problems like the pinion bearing going out. Dip your finger in the oil and see if it is black or somewhat clear, this is an indication of the condition.

I believe in products made by Amsoil and I personally use 75w90 (FGR) in my stuff over the products sold at the parts store. I don’t know what part of Arizona you live in but heat is your enemy when it comes to oil and synthetic has an improved operating range.

I am assuming it is a C1500 and will require 2.3 quarts unless it has a heavy axle. V-)
