On my 1995 Dodge Intrepid (OBD I) you can just turn the key ON OFF ON OFF ON, and the check engine light will give you the codes.

Grab a paperclip, unbend and insert into A and B. Turn key on but do not start, CEL will flash out codes, # of blinks, wait 1 sec, # of blinks = code, repeats 3x with about a 2s pause between each code, then goes to the next code.

          ie

          -blink…blink blink………..blink…blink blink………blink…blink blink………..
-blink blink blink…blink blink blink blink……… blink blink blink…blink blink blink blink……… blink blink blink…blink blink blink blink………
          -blink…blink blink………..blink…blink blink………blink…blink blink……….. etc. – code 12, code 34, then 12 to tell you it’s done.

12 is normal, and if you have no other codes it will repeat that until you unplug/remove key.

Don’t forget to remove the jumper, and cooling fans turning on is normal.
