About 80% of my tools are from hf. I have some pretty good tools from them that have never let me down and I stand by them. Here is a list of some reliable tools from hf that has always worked out for me. There are more, but here is just a few:

1/2 drive and 3/8 drive breaker bars
      64 piece socket set with 1/4, 3/8, & 1/2 drive ratchets
      Their go-through socket set
      1/2 drive torque wrench
Their short and deep black impact sockets
      Their impact extension set
Their hex and torx socket set
      Their swivel set
For light to medium duty use only, their 4 piece pry bar set is good
Their 20 oz. hammer is reliable
      3 ton floor jack
      3 ton jack stands
22 piece wrench set with metric and standard sizes
Their metal (not plastic) wrench holder
A/C manifold set and vacuum pump and more.

Now here is a list of things that I can remember off the top of my head that has failed on me and I would recommend not getting. The list is short:

      Tire plug kit
Cheap socket set that cost about $4
      Wobble extension set
Their rotary set that cost about $10-$15
      The small generator
Nut and bolt assortment set with washers
      Their 6 ton bottle jack

Most of these are real cheap quality. Everything here has broken on me except the rotary set which is just useless. If you have any questions for an item not listed here, let me know and I’ll see if I can answer your question.

I find that any hand tool from hf is worth buying and not worrying about. I’ve got stuff from hf that I use at work and it’s still not a problem.

Although I have to agree that no one sells a good tire plug kit. Had to pay $40 online for the orange kit won’t say the name but it’s made of the right materials.

They also have the world beat with that cp bench grinder with the wrap around tool rest. Never seen anything like it. Wish I would’ve shopped at hf before going with “name brand” on several of my tool purchases.

Wrench 50 hours in a heavy traffic dealership and you will soon find that almost everything HF breaks. The rare exceptions are some of their hammers and impact sockets and the Earthquake line of air tools.

The earthquake tools are good. I had a central pneumatic impact gun and it was useless. No power. I obviously returned it.

I bought a tap and die set at HF….it works but the quality is just not there.
If a impact gun is what your looking for and your gonna use alot….go buy proffesional.
You will thank yourself later. In a pinch and its a sunday….yeah go for HF but dont be mad when your throwing it away in a month from heavy use.
I have gotten a few impact items off ebay used….needed to be reconditioned but worth it.
HF is kinda like going to a dollar store, the simple stuff your using all the the time is good to stock up on….zip ties, electrical tape, hand soap.

And for a air tank,go with your budget, but go as large as possible.
Its always a bummer to wait for a tank to refill.

If you’re looking for a good quality and reliable air compresor, then you have to spend a lot of money. I wouldn’t suggest harbor freight. Their compresors work for a few mins, then you have to wait for it to build up pressure again. If all you’re doing is changing tires, then you might get away with buying their higher priced compresors ($350+). If you go on their website, check out each compresors 5 star rating and customer reviews. I alwas check those out before buying something I haven’t tried.

They’re good for some tools. I bought a 2 and a half ton pittsburgh jack and it works great as does the battery load tester and their 17″ 1/2 drive breaker bar.

I love both of my breaker bars. They have never failed me. I have a 1/2″ and 3/8″ drive breaker bars from Harbor Freight. I had them for a while and they are pretty good. Still have a lot more use out of them. I also have a 3 ton floor jack from HF as well. I love it. Great price for a great jack.

I have breaker bars from HFT that seem ok. I like their impact sockets too.

I have the 41″ tool chest and I absolutely love it for home use

I broke the ratchet in a cheap $4 socket set as others have mentioned. Was a vehicle “emergency” set that I’ve since replaced.

I think Their roto head ratchets are the same as Lowes, and a lot of their sockets come packaged exactly the same, so I think HFT and Lowes share a supplier. I’m curious how their ratchets hold up. I hear they beat a modern craftsman raised panel ratchet (not trying to start anything, just a shootout I saw)

Pliers are CRAP. The snap-ring pliers bend easily, and the regular pliers aren’t machined right at all.

Air tools have been decent though, earthquake line’s good. I’ve also got a die grinder I use a lot.

Super Lube from HFT is good for kepping ratchets working right, just lubed all my ratchets last night actually
