Rattles and Heat Shields

if i get a new exhaust system, since mines getting old and rusty and i want more power and better performance, will it get rid of the rattling sounds coming from the heat shields? Do heat shields come already on exhaust systems or are they on the cars themselves?

If its a new exhaust. It should come with all new shields.

depends on what car, becuase my integra has the heat shields on the car its self, not on exhaust…no matter what, while ur old exhaust is off, u can repair the noisy ones

It’s really not worth it. The increase in “power” is going to be minuscule. Sure, the engine will sound “vroomyier”, but the power, power, power is mostly in your head, not then engine’s.

If you buy an aftermarket performance exhaust the chances are that it will have no heat shields. The basic rule of thumb is – the louder the exhaust the better it works. The trouble is that the neighbors will hate you and you will get ticketed.

Performance exhaust works best on turbocharged cars where less back pressure improves the pumping power of the turbocharger. Looking at my wife’s WRX with three catalytic convertors inline (this must be a dirty engine) my mouth waters at the thought of having those gone. But I’m a tree hugger so they will stay.
