      Hi folks
Got a rattling thud sound when going over ripples on the road on my 2000 Jeep grand cherokee
I don’t believe it is ball joint related , but do think it is support arm bushing…there is no shaking on the highway and no movement when prying under wheel
My question is what kind of a job is it to replaced the bushing or arms ? EASY or HARD
I have yanked on them and can not make any of them move HELP

I can’t speak about your vehicle specifically, but I can tell you what you’re in for in general…

If there’s ever going to be a seized or rusted part on your vehicle, you’ll find it holding your suspension on. And once you do get the control arm off, you’re left with the task of removing the bushing itself. That procedure often requires a bazillion-ton press, or an oxyacetylene torch. That’s why a lot of parts makers offer control arms with pre-installed bushings. That way you can just swap the whole arm, which is much much easier.

Maybe your model of Jeep isn’t so bad. Or maybe there’s some slick tricks you can find on a Jeep forum… but in my experience, replacing bushings often leaves me swearing like a truckstop during a pump fire.

        Good Luck

          1. check bushings on control arm. It’s not that hard to do. Need pray bar.
          2. rattle when wheels go up and down on say speed bumps, it’s SWAY BAR bushings, not CA bushings.

Changing bushings can be difficult. They are often pressed in and as a result often require a press or other special tools to manage. That said, it would be good to nail down the source of the nose before condemning the bushings. In particular I’d be looking at the stabilizer links. More info here.

Good luck and keep us posted.
