ram pcm

      I was wondering if I was to buy a pcm from a junkyard and try to use it on my truck would it work?
      03 dodge ram 1500 4.7

        most times at least in the case of my car the PCM needs to be programmed spacifically for the vehicle you are working on for it too work, its sort of a saftey measure that is supposed to deter theft… it would be easy to just order a PCM from the parts store if the one you have is faulty but its not always that easy…

        Mine went out last winter and cost me quite a pretty penny, it had to be programmed for my exact car, so the PCM was expensive enough, then i had to take it too the GM dealership to have it programmed! otherwise i would have just replaced it myself! 😛

          I’ve seen this problem personally. Guy went to the junkyard. Picked up a pcm. Same exact model etc same engine. Got a computer performance code. Told him to get it programmed and he insisted he didn’t need to. 3 weeks later he says he still can’t get it to run. Take newest pcm he had put in the truck. Take it to the dealer and got it programmed and like magic truck ran.

            yes sir…. its so they can get the money out of you… “Its a measure to prevent theft…”
