I have to raise my engine about 1/2″ to get to a bolt on the lower controller arm. Is it alright to put the jack under the tranny? The manual says to loosen the engine mount bolts and to use a transmission jack. It says don’t jack up the oil pan but it doesn’t say where to jack it up. My idea was to put a block of wood under the tranny and the condenser (I think that’s what it is). Is this alright?
      Thanks

Show us more pictures of the underside of the engine and transmission. What I am seeing with the board looks like you may smash the transmission pan. Remember, when you remove motor mounts what you put under there will be holding everything up.

BTW, the condenser is in front of the radiator.

Here are three more photos. One is a close up of a steel piece that extends down. It seems to lie between the engine and the transmission. BTW, I won’t actually be removing the motor mount, just removing the two silver bolts and the rusty nut (these are visible in the 1st photo below). I included a link to the page in the manual where this is described (the manual says two nuts and a bolt, but there are two bolts and one nut).

To me that means jack up the engine but avoid putting the wooden block on the engine oil pan. So, what on the engine does that leave that looks solid?

As long as you put a block of wood under there and you don’t go too far when you jack, you should be fine. Even better if you can support the engine from above with a brace. You’ll have more room to work underneath if you’re able to get your hands on one of those.
