Radio reception issues

So the radio in my parents 2000 vw cabrio no longer picks up any stations on the fm band. However all am radio stations come in just fine. So would this be an antenna issue or a problem with the radio itself?

I have the code for the radio but if I go to remove the radio does that activate the security system on the car? It is equipped with an alarm

There is a lockout code similar to Honda in several of the VW radios, so you would have to get the serial number and contact a VW dealer to get the code. However I would suggest that if you can’t find a used one cheap that your best bet may be to just put in an aftermarket unit. They start pretty cheap, installation is easy with the proper parts and because of the age of the car you should get some more functionality out of it.
