radiator leak

Not that long ago , I replaced the radiator on my car due to the bottom plastic tank being sucked
inwards , this was causing a leak from the bottom tank , my question is what would have caused this to happen , the car is a 2005 Holden Commodore SV6 .

Direct impact. You have no vacuum inside rad. Actually it’s high positive pressure device.
Likely a rock tossed from road at odd angle or ricocheted from bumper skirt. Happens. Honda forum had a member that had rock pierce through AC rad in his CR-V as Honda made huge opening in bumper skirt right across it.

Welcome. Sorry to hear. I had same infamous CR-V with fish mouth and when I read about that AC radiator, I made makeshift plastic cover for that hole. Out of polypro. That’s one of those cases when grills everywhere and belly pens come very useful.

The car showed no signs of overheating , just a small puddle of coolant on the garage floor , all fixed now , I was curious to know what might have caused it , you can get skid plates for my sort of car , I may just get one for added protection .

Some garages use vacuum to fill the coolant system from the bottom up. (theoretically no air pockets)I know I do where I am at and I know they have the same thing for cars. So someones regulator was set too high or bad it pulls too much vacuum and pop inward it goes. I have heard from the other techs when it first came out they were replacing de-aeration tanks all over the place lol.
