97 Civic running rich and hesitates at low RPM. I posted about this 6 months ago and still cannot figure it out.

Well while helping a friend swap a motor, his dad (a mechanic) asked me what was going on with mine. He pulled the vacuum line from the FPR and the RPM went up (vac leak). He covered the hole on the intake manifold and the idle returned to normal. He says that the FPR is bad since the car ran the same with it, and with out; and that when there is vacuum on the FPR, the car should run bad. He was so sure that he order the part for me with his business account.

Sound like a proper diagnosis? I had checked fuel pressure previously and when the vacuum line was removed the fuel pressure raised about 10PSI but I had not thought about the fact I was creating a vacuum leak. I may have tested for that wrong.

Actually the test you did with removing the vac line and the FP
raising 10 psi is a proper test to tell if the FPR is operating
correct. When you did the test you should have put your finger
over the vac line. Keep us posted how it plays out. 🙂

So, fuel pressure should raise with the vacuum line removed and the hole covered on the intake manifold? Which in turn should cause the car to run rough, right? I didn’t cover the nipple on the intake manifold just removed the line, which raised RPMS from the leak… I’ll post after I replace it Tuesday. Thanks!

            Replaced FPR and no change.

+1 this is the proper test for the FPR. In fact, I just shot a video on this Monday. That said, Honda’s rarely have fuel delivery issues. I would put the fuel system at the bottom of the list of suspects and conduct your diagnosis elsewhere. In fact, I’ve written an article on diagnosing performance problems you might find helpful.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
