If you have a repair questions this is one place to post it. Everyone is welcome to offer an answer and I’ll check in often to offer anything I can. You can also start a new thread for a particular problem and we can all have a go at it. This is an opportunity for me to learn as well and I look forward to how this works out for us, ask away!

Hi, maybe someone could offer some help for me, have my kids honda 97 predule/ v-tec, with hard starting issue in cold weather. Adjusted the fast idle valve assy. like on Eric video and turned it to full seat and backed off quarter turn counter clock wise.. Car started fine the next few days with no issues(possibly thinking because of the warmer weather). But then the weather turned colder at 36 degrees.. The problem started again and my kids missed work and class due to this. Have a spare electronic air control valve assy.. But like Eric says i don’t wish to throw parts at the problem… Have replaced the plugs and wires, cap, rotor, and a new distr. since the old one started leaking oil. Heard that maybe a fuel filter maybe the issue ( not ) but it time for replacement … Any help welcome.. Thank you..

It’s a 97 so check for OBDII codes? If a distributor gets wet it can cause a non-start or start then stall. Incorrectly gapped splark plugs. Clogged EGR. Have you watched Eric’s video on Honda idle issues? No idea if it’s relevant to prelude but there are 2 idle valves. One has a bee’s wax pellet of some kind. Worth looking into. Eric has more than 1 video that mentions Honda idle issues. Don’t remember which ones.

            hi eric

            this yasser from KSA,

I am rebuilding a chevy big block engine 454 cu and I am using the BOXWRENCH video guide,

I see that it is important to put a protective lubricants on the cam shaft before instillation. the problem is in KSA we don’t have such kinds of lubricants !

I looked for synthetic oils for rebuilding engines I didn’t find it !

please tell is it possible to put the regular engine oil on the cam for the instillation ?

the second thing that I am following the torque spec. for the head bolts and the connecting rods caps bolts.

if I don’t follow them what is the possible problems?

            thanks,

              Hey,

I recently had a stuck caliper that got the wheel pretty hot. It would sizzle when water splashed on it. I am currently replacing the calipers. The car is a dinosaur and uses tapered roller bearings. I repacked them about 1.5 years ago after 20 years of no maintenance. Question is… since the caliper stuck and heated up the wheel, should I also repack the bearings? I’m feeling lazy, and the grease looks fine, but I know heat degrades the grease. Can I get by without repacking?

I would remove the wheel bearings and check them for any damage and then clean and repack them. how do the rotors look ? I would check them with a straight edge to make sure the excessive heat build up did not cause any warpage.

                  Quoted From 619DioFan:

Rotors seem to check out okay to the best of my abilities. There was no blue tint to them that is characteristic of excessively heated metal, no vibration/wobbling/noises under braking. No visible heat cracks either. The bearings looked fine as well. Grease still light and sticky. Not black like excessively worn grease.

I have a question about DOT 3/4 brake fluid. Not DOT 3 and or 4. But DOT 3/4 as in .750. “Three quarters” I am currently attending UNOH school of technologies. I’m in a hydraulic brakes class as of right now and my instructor has asked us to look up what DOT 3/4 is and describe it. I can’t find anything on this stuff other then what my classroom manual has givin me. (It isn’t much) Any help with this would be awesome! if anyone would like info about the school go to http://www.unoh.edu/academics/college-o … ndex.shtml Its a great school with great people. Thanks again!

                                Hey all – I’m having bucking/surging issue with a Civic (a ’97 Civic HX).

So far, I have cleaned the following (this was all originally done to address hunting/wandering idle)

                                • EGR ports (they were badly, badly clogged when I popped the cover)
                                • EGR valve (sprayed the inside with carb cleaner)
                                • IACV
                                • throttle body

I’m now experiencing some serious bucking when I am at low speed and low load. I haven’t thrown a CEL yet, but I’m sure I will after putting more miles on my car.

I’ve read that a bad MAP sensor, air in coolant and a bad TPS can cause this condition. I’ve done my best to bleed out my coolant (there is no bleeder hose) and I’m preparing to turn my attention to the MAP and TPS. However, ETCG says in a video that TPS rarely goes bad.

Do you all think I’m on the right track in turning my focus to the MAP sensor? Have I overlooked anything else?

(Note: My plugs are properly gapped and appear to be in good condition. Haven’t done anything with cap or wires for a few years so bear this in mind.)

                                  Hello all,

I’m a fan of the show and this is my 1st question.

I have a 93 Honda Del Sol, my hand brake light will not turn off.
If I put it all the way down, seems to get sightly dimmer, and the brake itself seems to be loose. I can not till if the hand brake is engaged.
If I drive and pull the hand brake hard, the car will slow down. So this might be two problems?

Where should I start? The wiring diagram or the mechanical system itself?

Hey Eric, I have a 1990 honda accord exi and need to replace the front rotors, i was wondering if you could give me a run down on how to do it, i watched your videos and i think i understand how to do it but am just a little unsure, i don’t have access to power tools and just need to know if there is any “special tool” i need and if it is possible for me to do this at home.

please any help would be amazing
