Im trying to determine if my clutch is in the early stages of showing wear. Sometimes when I make a “perfect” shift into second gear it almost feels like the tires are slightly spinning, and im not talking about chirping the tires either (which sometimes I do when shifting very quickly but not often). This usually happens when Im shift quickly. Almost feels like the power to the wheels isnt quite immediate, but it doesnt feel like its slipping either, at least not overtly – like the RPM dont shoot up crazy quick or anything.

Anyways, i watched erics video and one of the tests he suggests is putting the car in second gear with the hand brake up and slowly letting off the clutch. Well, when I do that the car does stall as im letting it up. If i let it out quick the car jerks and goes off quickly. Is this really a full proof test that the clutch is good?

Another test I performed is when im on the highway in 5th gear (the highest gear in my integra), ill be doing 50 MPH and then shove the pedal to the floor. It doesnt slip when i do this it just slowly accelerates with the RPM.

With these 2 tests does it seem that i sill have a lot of life left with the clutch? It has something like 70K miles on it however ive probably ridden the clutch anywhere between 8-10 times within the past year just due to not paying attention when im shifting (which i dont do anymore). I cant afford to buy a clutch or flywheel at the moment so im hoping ill be OK for atleast another year or so.

It sounds to be in fair shape, if its not slipping drive it and save for a new one.

I can’t remember if these use a cable or if they are hydraulic.I:|
if it has a cable you might want to check it’s adjustment.

Ok.., So there is really nothing to can do besides drive it easy and try to make it last untill you can afford a clutch kit.

So you think it sounds like my clutch is pretty worn?

                  It sounds normal to me.

That is the test that I’ve used for years and have found it to be effective. It does sound like your clutch is OK but it might be a bit glazed which could be a result of your driving habits. You might try going into a parking lot, put the trans in 3rd and let out the clutch part way while you rev the engine, this will really burn the clutch so don’t do it too much but once you’re done the clutch should grab better. If this ‘fixes’ the issue then I would recommend modifying your driving habits to spend less time ‘slipping’ the clutch between gears as that is what normally causes that condition to occur.
