Question about when my Radiator fans should kickon

Hello all, i have 98 olds cutlass that gets hotter than id like it to my question is should the fans kick on intermittently at the large mark halfway on the heat guage? tonight i sat in the driveway and reved the car at 2k rpm and let it warm up to the point on the pic below. when checking under the hood the fans werent on.

I have very limited experience working on cars so my question is, should the fans have been on and is that where i should start my search for the slight overheating ive been getting?

I can’t judge by the gauge. Actually revving the motor can provide a cooling
effect because you are circulating more coolant. just let it idle or turn a working ac on.

Slight overheating problem. Best to monitor the engine temp with a scan tool. The dash may not reflect actual ECT.
Verify that fans come on when ECT reaches say around 215, which probably is the upper end operating temp.

I am actually getting my ac vacuum checked and hopefully filled today so i can check to see if the ac turns the rad fans on afterwards hopefully

OK so after a few hours at the shop the lower intake manifold gasket needs changing and apparently this will fix my overheat issue and leak. they want 930 bucks to do the job so i dont know if im going to try it or if my car is getting scrapped… shitty day (parden the language)
