Hi i need to do a leak down test on my engine. I borrowed a leak down tester off my friend but its no good. I was wondering if i were able to connect my air compressor straight up to my cylinder and blow compressed air straight into it and listen for leaks. I watched erics video so i know what to listen for. Would doing this damage anything on the engine? if i were to blow too much air in the cylinder would i damage anything? or will i be right? I cant afford to go out and buy one.

As long as the cylinder under test is at TDC on compression you’ll be fine.

No you can’t damage anything. Your engine cylinders deal with extreme temperatures and pressure, you couldn’t ruin anything by hooking up air pressure to it. Just make sure the piston is at Top dead center on the compression stroke meaning all the valves are closed and the piston is rising in the cylinder.
