I own a 2006 BMW 325i and the engine calls for 0W-40 synthetic from the factory. This is probably why these vehicles leak after about the first 50k miles especially from the oil filter gasket which is not as simple as it sounds as it is behind the accessories/ valve cover gasket. Anyways, I love this car and as a fellow Buckeye and ETCG1 subscriber I was wondering if you could help me with a question? My 325i has the dreaded electronic dipstick (I hate this). I have have replaced my oil sending unit which, is sealed with a new sensor for the oil dipstick in an attempt to fix the electronic oil sensor to no avail. I have an error code of 2E7C (bit serial-data interface, signal) and have diagnosed it down to either the intelligent battery system harness or my alternator is going bad. Parts are not cheap for BMW’s so I was wondering if you had any other ideas on possible fixes for this?

To be honest I have no experience with that engine so I would have little to offer in that regard. That said, if you can get your hands on a service manual for the vehicle I’m sure there will be a testing procedure outlined for that circuit that should help you diagnose the problem. You may be able to find a manual online somewhere.

Good luck and keep us posted.

          Best manual for a BMW

I would help If I had that Bentley manual, but all the ones I have are for the 5 series

I have a few Bentleys on my shelf and a few more on my lap top. Worth their weight in Platinum. In a nut shell they explain and show how every single part of your car works, and process in trouble shooting.

Don’t by any other service manual if you own a German car, hands down. The only good use for a Haynes or Chilton book is to put your coffee cup on, or use between the jack and oil pan when changing engine mounts!

Agree. I restore old VW Beetles and my Bentley manual is the only one I use for that.
