I used the MIL (light flash) method to get codes off of my truck after the check engine light came on yesterday (while driving in a nasty snow storm) and got 43 twice, and a 56. I know the 43 is a misfire and I have no clue why it would show twice. Maybe multiple cylinders? How to fix that? I have been looking around on the internet and cannot find ANYTHING on the code 56. The only thing i can think of is bringing it to work and trying to get the codes with an OBD II scanner. Any suggestions on how to fix any of these? I was thinking of starting with plugs and wires, maybe a cap and rotor, then run some injector cleaner through but im not sure why it would misfire other than that.

Used this to translate the codes. the OBD codes are listed also.

There is no code 56. code 55 which means end of diagnostic
no codes stored. for the misfire code. You may want to start
with the suggested tune up parts.

If I’m not mistaken 56 means end of codes OBDII P codes will identify which cylinders are missing.

Right, the code 43 is a generic misfire/ignition control code. Code 56 doesn’t exist. It’s easy to miscount the flashes. I’ve done it a lot! 😆

For domestic OBDI readers, I use a Equus 3120 Innova Scanner. Look online and you’ll find one for about $150.00 Seems like a lot, but other OBD I &II scanners are much pricier. Believe it or not, Walmart often carries it! It will also scan OBDII and CAN.

thanks all, some of the guys at work thought it was from the insane snow we got and getting stuff wet, but the last two owners never did anything as far as replacing the plugs or cap and rotor, and yes i retried and counted 56 because the light stays on 😛 once it drys up and warms up i will get new plugs at least (if they need it)

Keep us posted on if the tune up helps with the problem.
