Hi ya’ll, DD’s topaz had some major brake problems. The brake light was on so I looked for leaks, Pedal to the floor. No leaks so changed the MC. Bled the system. Brakes still squishy but they stopped the car.

She drove it for 2 days and the pass side wheel cylinder blew. I was going to replace it myself, but oldest DS snapped one of the bolts and rounded the other one. I had it towed to a repair shop.

He called today to tell me that the rear brake wouldn’t snug up. I to;d him not to worry about it to just put the drums on with the new shoes. He agreed.

Called back and said the brakes a still squishy.

I have reolaced the MC and pass side caliper d/t not being able to get the bleeder screw out. Have now replaced the wheel cylinder and have new shoes on the back.

The brake pedal will get firm but won’t stay that way.

I can NOT find the valves for this car!!

This is what the MC looks like with the valves attached. http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/EdR1/2010-05-12_194354_2010-05-12_144228.jpg

They are not built in. If they were I wouldn’t be having the problems. When my son took the old MC off to get a replacement the guy at the parts place told him they were one way valves and he needed to put them on the new MC.

I had to build new lines for the rear brakes, from the MC. I also had to buy an adapter for the line closest to the firewall because the port was larger than 3/8.

I can find racing valves that fit a mustang for around 16$. Since I have no clue what those are or what they do I have doubts about installing them.

          I have 3 choices here:

          1. Block the rear lines completely and just use the front brakes.

          2. Put in a totally different Proportioning valve that attaches somewhere under the car or

          3. See if I can find the actual valves at a Ford/Mercury dealership

The only one that really looks doable is #1

I have looked for the Pressure control valves online Part number 28091

          Thanks!!

Just got off the phone with a Ford dealer. The part is no longer available. It had a 10 yr usage on Temps and Topaz from 84-94 so I am SOL!!
