Alot of owners manuals and service information will usually show those jack and lift points also.
February 26, 2012 at 11:00 am #452516I too would like to see a video of jack points and where you can put the jack stands. I can usually find info for jack points but never can seem to find info on where I can put the jack stands.
February 26, 2012 at 11:00 am #452517Well, as a general rule of thumb, on unit-body cars, you want to put your stands under the pinch welds near the wheels, and make sure you don’t push into the rocker panels… When I use a jack, I tend to put it a bit farther from the wheel, so I can get the car higher, and then put the stands at the jack points nearer the wheels, with the ‘pegs’ of the jack stands extended upwards for more clearance. By this, I mean get the stands higher by pulling the pegs up to the car instead of dropping the vehicle all the way down to the stand’s lowest setting. I know this isn’t a video, but it’s how I’ve done it for years. On a car with a full frame, find a solid spot on the frame and do the same. Make sure you don’t put the stands near an upward bend in the frame so the car doesn’t slip off the stands into that upward slope. Just some tips until there is a video.
Also, by pinch welds, I mean the long straight weld under the rocker panel that runs between the wheels, and is typically a few sheets of metal that are formed together and point towards the ground. They are generally very stable if they aren’t rusting, and this is where most shop lifts’ pads are placed to raise a vehicle.
March 24, 2012 at 11:00 am #452518I’ve been asked about jack points several times but it varies so much by vehicle. Given that this is a popular request perhaps it’s time to see if I can work something out. Thanks for the suggestion.
April 8, 2012 at 11:00 am #452519when looking for a jacking point to the rear of my tempo i saw there was no “good” jacking point because of the amount of rust the best option appeared to be the control box for the sway bar, the box broke off the car just hanging there, it didnt go thru the floor but it makes alot of noise now i managed to rivit some 16 gauge steel to the rocker panel, it seems to be holding for the time being, i paid 200 for this car 2 years ago, its almost at 250,000 miles and the engine runs fine. it has alot of rust from the mid section to the rear but the front end looks good.
April 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #452520If I’m doing wheel related work, I look for the little tabs that stick down that match with the slot in the scissor jack.

Yes please do. I’m struggling to identify the frame and safe lift pints on the 2007 nissan sentra. Please make a video that would be great.

June 22, 2013 at 3:39 am #528412In each video I’ve done since this suggestion was made I’ve been incorporating jacking and support points into my videos. Yes it would be nice to make a video on how to lift a vehicle but for now I plan to keep showing what I can in the videos I’m putting out now.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

June 22, 2013 at 5:43 am #528456Thanks for the suggestion Eric. It seems any lower control arm mounting sports are a good place to jack the car, front and back.
