I have a 2004 Avalanche and when I go to fill it up the pump keeps shutting off. Now I read that it can be caused by a bad EVAP vent solenoid so I replaced that and it still is hard to fill. Any suggestions? Thank you!

it might be cause the fuel fill tube to the tank is kinked. look under the vehicle and see if you can spot the line running from the tank up to the fill spout. did this problem start recently or has it been ongoing?

There is a fuel roll over valve that may be stuck.

All of the above are possible, you are getting way to much pressure building up in the gas tank and/or the lines which is kicking in the safety feature of the gas pump.

I would suggest looking into recalls for this year and see if the tank or various other parts need replacing.

On my 05 Mustang the exact problem happens every time, In my situation the only fix is replacing the old tank with the new tank offered.

BE CAREFUL***** – If you force the pump to continue pumping after it has shut off, gas will be pressurized and come spewing out like a rocket! (don’t ask me how I know….)

                  Good luck!

+1 What you describe are the symptoms of a stuck roll over valve. You might try smacking the tank with a rubber mallet, it might knock it loose. These valves are designed to prevent fuel from leaking out in the event of a roll over. If they get stuck they can cause the tank not to vent as you try and fill it up. This causes the pump to kick off because it thinks the tank is full.

im in no way a expert as ive never heard of such a thing i thought the pump shuts off when gas hits the tip of the nozzle but a way that i have heard to make sure you get a full tank of gas which might work in this situation is pump it til it click off remove the nozzle to the ponint where the little door the nozzle goes in is sightly open this will allow it to vent and just keep doing that. Another option is to pump slow only slightly press the trigger on the nozzel handle so gas slowly goes into the tank
