I have an 97 Acura RL V6 with automatic Transmission. I have a starting situation, a small Radiator leak and a major AC problem. When I consult the repair manuals, it shows me where components should be but when I go to that location, I cannot find the component. Also, when I do find a component and get a new replacement part, they don’t match. For example, I will tell you about the radiator part. The repair manual and your video on radiator repair shows the transmissions fluid lines going into the bottom of the radiator. When I compare this to the radiator in my Acura, I do not see these lines coming into the bottom of the radiator. Another example is the fuel pump relay in my car. The manual shows this relay in the trunk on the drivers side of the car. I found a part in this location but it was a two ohm resistor with only two leads coming into it. In another manual it said the fuel pump relay was with the main relay for the car. In another manual it said the fuel pump was in the gas tank and I could get to it by removing the back seat and under the back seat was an access panel for the fuel pump. I could not find the access panel under the back seat. In my case replacing the part seems to be a simple task but finding where the parts are located is a major problem. Do you have any suggestions for resolving these location and part miss match problems?

a lot of times when you use repair manuals like chilton or haynes, they are made to cover many years. I know that haynes has a manual that is supposed to cover the chevy C/K series truck from 1988-1999. Chevy had quite a few changes during those years even though the trucks are similar. So some of the manuals might not be spot on for all years. Some of the dealers in my area will tell you where certain parts are located on a specific car, you just have to call them. That might me different in your area. Some auto parts stores will do the same thing if you swing in or call them. If you can, do a search online for a factory service manual for your specific car. Theyre out there but are kind of hard to find. If you need to find a specific part location now, i have access to a large online database that most auto shops use and would be happy to look it up for you.

I would suggest getting the actual factory manual.

sam_priem thanks for responding to my problem. I have a 97 Acura RL. I need a location for the following components:
            Fuel Pump
            Fuel Pump Relay
            Main Relay
Is the Fuel Pump Relay in the same case as the Main Relay?
How do I get to the fuel pump?
I need a picture of the Radiator showing where the Transmission fluid lines are connected. Thanks Again

^^^factory service manual download is on this page^^^

the fuel pump is located under the spare tire in the trunk, right behind the center of the rear seats.

the fuel pump relay is located behind the left side of the rear seat. not with the main relay

the main relay is located behind the dash to the right of the steering column.

the only picture of the tranny lines i could find shows you how to flush them out. you dont need to know that. But it does show where the inlet and the oulet locations are.

sam_priem thanks for responding to my question. Concerning the location of the fuel Pump relay, I found it inside of the trunk. It was located behind the carpet directly under the trunk pass through opening. It is a small black unit with 4 male spade contacts. Two of these contacts are for the open contact and two are for the relay winding. I tested the relay and it worked. It may be of some interest to you the way I found the Fuel pump relay. I got the wiring diagram for my 97 Acura RL. It showed the fuel pump relay, and connected to it, was a fuel pump resistor. I located the resistor on the drivers side of the trunk behind the carpet. I then disconnected the connector from the resistor and checked its resistance. It was .28 ohms as specified on the resistor housing. Knowing that the resistor was connected to the fuel pump relay from the wiring schematic, I attached a buzzer to the wire coming out of the wiring plug of the resistor. I then traced the buzzer along the cable and it lead me to the relay.

Now for the bad news, my Acura still won’t start. I get good spark to the spark plugs. The battery is charged. The starter sounds strong. I changed the plugs. I hear the fuel pump relay click when the ignition keys was turned on. However I didn’t hear the fuel pump pumping. It is suppose to pump for 2 seconds after the ignition key is turned on. (Continued in next post)

sam_priem I will continue my story. I have tried to find the fuel pump per your directions, but I have not found it yet. I am going to remove the carpet in the trunk behind the spare tire and see if the fuel pump access panel is there. Hopefully I can remove the fuel pump and test it to find out if it is working. I will let you know how I make out. If you have any other thoughts, let me know. Thanks again. Don13
