      Hi Everyone!,

I’m having a problem getting the rear drum off of my 2002 Civic. I’ve used the 2 bolt method to partially remove the drum but it got to a certain point and then it stopped. I can wiggle it and spin it but I just can’t pull it off. While using the 2 bolts there were a couple of “pins” that broke and fell out the bottom and also I have brake fluid leaking out. I’m not sure if this is the result of my efforts to get the drum off or if it was the reason for the soft brake peddle. If anyone has any suggestions what I can do to get the drum off I would greatly appreciative.

Have you tried hitting it around the edges with a mallet?

Is the parking brake on? (have seen people make this mistake before)

You may try to remove the rear rubber plug and adjust the brakes back if they are causing it to stick.

Another way is to drill out the pins from behind (on the backing plate)… Unless those are the pins that broke off…

I’ve tried hitting the drum with a rubber mallet as well as a steel hammer. I can turn the wheel hub so I know the parking brake isn’t stuck and the brake shoes are not binding. I can pull the drum out about 1/2″ to 3/4″ and I’m about a 1/4″ from getting the drum over the wheel studs. I’ll take a look for the rubber plug on the back. Thanks for the ideas so far.

the only thing holding it on are the brake shoes. make sure your ebrake is off and try adjusting the sprocket. you may have way too much drag. if none of these work, dont be afraid to use force with 2 flatheads or somthing with leverage
