“To [Prius] or not to [Prius]? That is the [over-used quote from Shakespeare.] Seriously, what is your take on these vehicles? (I didn’t get one by choice so much as a 2005 Prius became available when I needed a new ride but I have no complaints.)

Much rather ride a Trek or Cannondale than even sit in a Prius.
March 29, 2015 at 8:31 am #659571Functional yes, interesting, no. Economy cars don’t have to be boring. Honda proved that many times, CRX comes to mind.
March 30, 2015 at 4:08 am #659652I love mine. At my age I like boring but smooth ride. I like all the technology behind it behind the nerd that I am. It has no starter motor, no alternator. No assessories belt. Kind of a cool car.
March 30, 2015 at 4:28 am #659658I see a lot of Prius’s being repaired at the Toyota Dealership I work at. I’ve never personally worked on one, aside from doing inspections, and basic oil changes, but they seem to be the most common car I see getting repaired at my particular dealership. These, however are all newer Prius’s, also their repair bills see, extraordinarily high. Parts prices on these things make me cringe.
That being said I’ve seen a few older Prius’s come in with around 200,000+ miles that worked just fine.
March 30, 2015 at 4:47 am #659671That’s one car I would never touch, nor sit in. If a girl has a Prius(not common round here), that would be a dealbreaker. If I got offered one for free, I’d take it and sell it and buy a second truck. Even enviorimentallywise, they are a lie. Manufacturing one will pollute more than a Hummer will in it’s lifetime. Getting the metals for the battery also harm the environment AND Hondas from the 90s got better mileage than the Prius. All in all, it can’t do anything right, other than being a nuisance. Most car guys have strong feelings against the Prius for good reason.

You would love my job! I have to touch and drive a Prius every day and it makes me very sad 🙁March 30, 2015 at 6:18 am #659696I have one connection in the industry that makes me drive this type of junk just see what I think. I actually didn’t dislike the Prius, it was just boring and everything a car shouldn’t be. It was, however better than the Chevy volt that I drove recently, which I absolutley hated.
Big problems with Prius — not loud enough…. gear changing or whatever it was doing, well quite odd, which bothered me a bunch. That park button the dash, well thats a joke. Cars with start buttons I dislike. The screen and all that other silly stuff on the screens, well its just not needed.
in the picture I have included, it basically shows everything a car needs. Brakes, clutch, shifter, gauges, heater, radio, lights and wipers. No screens, pictures of trees, ect. Time will will show that something like a 1970 Chevelle will be coveted long after all Priuses are recycled. I suppose at my age I have been around to much nice stuff to ever settle for eco cars like the ones common now
The Chevelle…now that’s a car. Wasn’t around for them in their heyday, but I admire and desire one nonetheless. Who cares about fuel mileage when you hear the music of a 396 or 454 and grab the gearshift….now that is a feeling that will never be recreated by a modern car.March 30, 2015 at 6:50 am #659702

That’s one car I would never touch, nor sit in. The whole GM ignition switch debacle has pretty much killed the key in the ignition switch I figure.
Of course it’s ridiculous to suggest that people don’t drive around with 10 pounds of key chain hanging off their ignition key.
The Prius and other hybrid cars are what they are. Basic transportation that’s intended to get better gas mileage. The people buying them aren’t the types of people who really give a crap about their car, other than that it works.
As far as servicing hybrid vehicles, beyond regular maintenance. Owners should be prepared for a little extra tug at their wallet when the inevitable failure occurs.

Oh yeah… For some reason the master cylinder on a Toyota Prius failed at 60,000 miles and for some reason WAS NOT covered by warranty. It cost the customer 3,000 dollars to get the repair done, which I believe was because of the regenerative brake system. Head light goes out on a new Prius? Lolz that is going to cost you around 500 dollars just for a freaking headlight bulb. I think that is the Prius with the HID.March 30, 2015 at 7:16 am #659708

Cars with start buttons I dislike.
GM just has the volume so it was more pronounced. My truck still has it’s original lock cylinder, and my keychain has at least 15 keys on it. Used daily. They don’t make’em like they used to.

March 30, 2015 at 7:20 am #659709Take a look at the aesthetics of these and its tragic to think we flushed all this all away in the 1960s.
And end up with this foreign plastic garbage
