I am driving a 1991 Ford Tempo GL on my roadtrip, and it has been leaking Power steering fluid from the drivers side on the rack only in right turns, but it does seem to get worse, as in the beginning it would be a few drops maybe a small puddle now it is quite bad. I have soon gone trough my gallon of powersteering fluid i bought about 5 days ago. I believe the system holds a quart so it is quite bad. The obvious solution would be to get a New rack but that aint happening on a 300$ car. So i am considering disconnecting the Power steering pump so i wont have to worry filling fluid, as i know what happens when you drive without fluid (changed a pump because of that. on someones car.) or should i just keep buying cheap stuff and refill regularly, wich is almost every stop as pulling into and out of parking lots is the worst, unless i only turn left into the spot. I would also point out that all i need of this car is to get me from Washington D.C. To New york where i get rid of the car and get on the plane back to Norway.
      Thanks in advance.
      -Thomas.

Refill regularly you don’t have that far to go.

I wouldnt bother filling it. If youre able to do it without messing with anything for too long, disconnect it. Call it a day. No sense in wasting money

I would keep fluid in it. If you run it dry for to long the pump might seize them your someone belt will snap. This will leave you with no water pump or alternator.

It’s a Ford, the power steering fluid is plain old ATF. Just go to whatever discount or discount auto parts store and buy a jug of the cheapest ATF you can find.
