Power steering problem

I just replaced the gearbox in my car, and this ment dropping the subframe, and disconnecting the power steering hoses from the rack.

I put the car back together the other day, and everything else is fine except for the power steering, wich is not working at all, or maybe at 10% tops. On top of that, the steering does not return at all. It’s not leaking any fluid, and i did bleed the system.

Does this happen if you put the two hoses on the wrong way (inlet hose to the outlet and vice versa)? I had marked the hoses when taking them off, but my markings had disappeared, so i had to guess. Same goes for the little inlet valve that goes in the hole on the rack, i was not sure what way it should go in, so i had to guess.

This can happen if the valve and hoses aren’t installed correctly. I don’t think that’s the issue though.
The fact that the wheels do not correct themselves has nothing to do with the power steering. The wheels are probably not returning because the caster got thrown off when the subframe was reinstalled. An alignment can’t fix this. The caster can not be adjusted on most cars and the ones that it can be adjusted on can not be adjusted this much.
Something was not installed correctly or got severely damaged.
I suggest reading over a manual to see if you can identify what was done wrong. Not to be rude, but I also recommend consulting a manual before doing further repairs.
You may just have to bite the bullet and take it to a shop to get it diagnosed.

Caster, camber and wheel aligment is spot on, i had it checked at a shop yesterday. They also looked the chassis over, and said that everything is spot on. No error codes either.

I also followed the manuals instructions when i put it back together. I might have messed up something since im not a pro, but it’s a mystery to me what that might be.

Could a clogged power steering system be the issue? If some debree found itself into the system and clogged it.

            It’s possible.
Stupid question: the belt is back on the vehicle and routed correctly right?
What is the year, make, model, engine, Manual/auto and mileage?

Yeah, i actually replaced the serpentine belt and made sure that it’s on properly. The pump seems to be spinning just like normal.

The car is an Ford Mondeo ST200, wich is the US SVT Contours technically identical sister. Manual, 140k miles.
It has new wishbones and ball joints, tie rods (inner and outer), anti-rollbars and wheels&tires.

The PWS was fine before i took it apart. 😆

The manual should indicate which hole is for the pressure line and which is for the return line.

Thats what i tought, but it does not 😆 What it actually says is that you should mark the lines with a bit of tape or something so you know where to reinstall them later. That’s what i did, but the tape got wet and fell off, so i was left guessing. I tried looking at the pictures from the cars online parts finder, but of course all the pictures were of the normal 4-cyl models, not the ST model.

I was just out for a drive in the car, and the PWS suddently got a lot better. I think i may have been on the right tracks when i suspected dirt in the system.

Well hopefully it works out for you. It may have just been air trapped in the rack or something.
