I have two Honda Power Steering Pump. The pumps in question fits to 2000 Honda Accord LX 2.3L engine. One of the pump, let’s call it Old Leaky, is currently in the car. And the other pump, let’s name it New Busted, is on the side. I’ve posted a few topics regarding the pump leaking and replacing it. It’s been weeks since then. I settled with Old Leaky since New Busted unexpected stopped pulling fluid into the system. The pulley is spinning and the bearing is in good shape since it is manufactured.
Now I have a problem and I have an idea what the solution is but before I continue, I like to confirm if my theory is sound. Old Leaky is living up to its name. Before, the leak was small and barely visible to the naked eye. But recently, the leak is pretty obvious. I see the pump is leaking by the pulley and it is dripping all over the alternator belt. Luckily the fluid is not dripping into the alternator which is a good for the time being. After some research, I guess the main seal is failing. I’m planning on using the seals on New Busted and putting them into Old Leaky. But before I do that, I like to see if I can get New Busted operating again.
I saw a video on YouTube of someone rebuilding their power steering on their Odyssey. During the video, he was explaining the different parts of the pump and he mention the Flow Control value. He stated that if the Flow Control Value is faulty, replace the pump since there is no separate replacement part for it (if the information is wrong, I like to know) and that got me thinking. Can the Flow Control Value failure stop the pump from taking in fluid into the power steering system? If that’s the case, will swapping the control value fix the problem? I like to keep the chaos to a minimum even though I am game on replacing the seals.
I like to fix the pump before the leak becomes something I can’t control without opening the pump. I appreciate your inputs and opinion of the matter.
