I don’t see it as a big issue but more like a nuisance. Out of all the things I check with my 2000 Honda Accord, power steering is number two on my list. Whenever I see the fluid level is low, I top it off but it drops as times goes on. It wasn’t until today I noticed this (picture below)

A soot like material around the pump. Now I was foolish to think that was engine oil but I’m beginning to suspect that there is a leak. My question is how to find and fix the leak?

You could clean the entire area with brake clean.
Then monitor the areas. You could also add dye and
buy a black light and pin point it that way.By the
looks of the pictures. I would suspect around the shaft
seal where the pulley is. 😉

+1 to college man. It’s probably just a really slow leak that has collected road and brake dust.
