I am going to replace the steering gear got on my 1996 k1500. Its really loose to the left and tight to the right. the all the steering components have been replaced and this is the only thing left. I have also had it alligned.

My question is after i put the new one in. should i use the same power steering fluid or would it bennefit from using a synthetic or a special kind?

I also plan on replacsing the power steering hoses. I dont think that the pump or reservoir is leaking are they something that leak at times??

      thanks

You don’t need to invest in anything special for a power steering fluid as long as it’s power steering fluid. Considering it’s a GM product, I’m surprised you’re not already replacing the hoses due to a leak. Luckily, they’re cheap parts. Just replace them as planned and don’t give them another thought afterward.
