      Hi all!

I want to change the PS fluid on my girlfriend’s Elantra, her dad got the car a few months back and its been a dirty disgusting abused mess!!

All fluids have been changed, I am changing the tranny fluid one more time. ( the hose was cut by fan not too long ago ) with an inline WIX filter.

Going to use Maxlife as it seems to be the best one side fits all for used cars.

I didnt know what to do about power steering…. I dont have service manual and I know any synthetic should be fine in power steerings except for Hondas( thank god for prestone’s $2.50 fix for this at Walmart)

Should I go a head with it? Anybody has other suggestions?

Her power steering makes noise when turned atlease 75% and the fluid is absolutely filthy…Figured it will give the rank and pump a bit more time before dying out.

Not going to get Genuine fluid, this car isnt worth it.

      THANKS!

OK, this should be an easy job… Here are the basics… Get a bucket, some extra hose and remove the PS return line (to the reservoir if possible) and route it into the bucket. Put a hose on the reservoir where you removed the PS return line and ensure it is held above the fluid line on the reservoir… Turn on the car, let the pump run the fluid out … While this is occurring add new fluid until it runs clean out of the hose into the bucket(never let the reservoir go dry)… Turn off the vehicle, hook the PS return line back up and re-fill to proper level…

Then you must bleed the system… It is advised to lift the front wheels off the ground and turn the steering wheel stop to stop 20-30 times until the groaning noise ends.. (this is pushing the air out of the system)… The P.S fluid in the reservoir may bubble and foam over while you are doing this… just clean it up and when you are done, ensure it is to the proper fill level.

Be advised though, if it is groaning now, and it is full, it may have air in the system… and could be indicative of a bad O ring…

Good luck and let us know how it goes…
