Hey guys names Chris, new member around here but I’ve been visiting around the site for a while now. I recently replaced the pressure power steering line in my 99′ corolla. The hose works great no problems there but when the old one bursted the leak send power steering fluid all over the back of the engine and now continues to smoke whenever the engine heats up.

I’m about to the point where I’m just going to have to take it in to the shop or possibly get the engine detailed. I’ve tried engine degreaser to no avail, anybody else have any other tricks up their sleeve before I give up??

        hey chris, welcome.

it’ll burn off. how did you use the degreaser? with water? i like to use a good quality degrease like 3m, get the car to operating temp, spray the degreaser, and hose it off with a garden hose. what ever is left will burn off with engine heat. if you don’t feel safe tho I’d recommend taking it to be detailed.

Give it time, it should burn off after a while. If not then perhaps you have some other leak that’s causing the smoke.

I would use a ton of engine degrease on a warm engine ( not at OEM temp though)
then close the hood, let it heat up and smoke. It should burn off.

If that does not do the trick, If you have a pressure hose with heating capability
that would be my next try, obviously being very mindful of psi and the direction you are pointing it. Allow the engine to cool off before doing this, you do not want to douse a hot engine with cold cold water.

If these two attempts fails, I would agree with Eric and start looking for additional leaks.
