I am trying to acquire the tools I’ll need everyday to be a mechanic. Is a Power Probe a necessary tool for an automotive technician to have? I found a great deal on a really awesome set and I wanted to know what the forum members thought about its usefulness in my tool box.

I know, I actually found a better deal for the whole master set. But I really wanted to know if it’s necessary to have for electrical diagnostics.

As a driveway mechanic I wouldn’t need one but if you plan on making a living as a mechanic if you can afford it I would invest in it. Also if you’re interested in specializing in the electrical part it would certainly be a time saver and allow you to trouble shoot faster. With all the electrical parts now in these newer vehicles electrical trouble shooting gets quite complicated and this tool seems like it would be great to have. I’d love to have one.

It doesn’t do anything a multi-meter, test light, and a pair of long leads won’t do – but it does all that in 1 tool. It’s a handy tool to have, would definitely help speed things up if you are a technician, but not an absolute necessity if you are just starting out.

              I agree
also I have to say also that read all instructions and be careful cause you can get in some trouble with this, but with that said once you do learn this tool it is a time saver for sure

Its one of those tools you don’t really need it until you have one and then you wonder how you ever lived without it. Buy it, its a priceless tool to have in your box. I have 2 just incase one goes down.
