Have your battery tested. There is a fair chance it is bad. If the battery tests good, give your battery cables a good going over, and replace them if they are corroded. The two things I can readily think of that will cause your problems are a bad battery, and dirty, loose, corroded connections at the battery, starter, or ground.
If I were driving an Audi A6 I would try to avoid jumping it. It has too many expensive parts you might end up having to replace. I’d recommend pulling the battery and putting it on a charger.
Heat equals power which equals (current^2) x resistance. So there is either too much current or too much resistance in that hot wire. Or both.
High resistance could cause the battery to fail to charge as well. Even if your battery tests bad, still check the wiring to ensure that’s not the root cause.
Yup if it were me I’d be voltage drop testing the cables that connect the battery, starter and alternator together to see if any of them had excessive voltage drop and indicating that the wire is losing voltage which would indicate that section of wire has a poor connection or internal damage.
In addition, check the grounds.
How old is the battery? If the voltage drop and grounds are ok I’m going with a bad battery.
Also, I’m not a fan of jumping these cars. I have a friend who owns both a jetta and A4 and had issues with his TCM after a jump – not fun.
