HI, I have a 91 honda accord exr. i have watched quite a lot of your videos, and you have been very helpful. I also have idol issues, and i will be trying to fix with your suggestions. However, My car has other issues as well. While i am driving it stalls, so i have to take my foot off the gas, then put back on for it to continue going. If i leave my foot on the gas it just slows down then loud continuous pop sounds till i remove my foot from the gas peddle. It is more frequent now. Then last week my car died while driving. So i have now replaced the main relay. My car still would not start. I then replaced the ecu fuse, and it starts. But i still have the same problem. Then today, the fuse blew again. And i replaced that fuse again, and now my car is still doing the same thing of stalling while driving. I replaced the fuel filter, and I adjusted the fast idle valve. Still same problem. It seems as though gas is not getting to the motor, and so while driving the rpm goes down. What could this be? I will be replacing the distributor cap and rotor today, will that help the issue? I am desperate for some help.

        Welcome to the forums!

When was the last time your timing belt was serviced? Is the vehicle in time? You also said –

While i am driving it stalls, so i have to take my foot off the gas, then put back on for it to continue going

If a vehicle stalls (stop running and the engine dies), you need to see if your missing spark or fuel. You also may want to check the electrical part of the ignition switch. Next time it stalls while driving, try to jiggle the key and see what happens.

As for the fuse that keeps blowing, it would be best to locate a wiring diagram and see if there is any other circuits that fuse may feed. You may have a short to ground somewhere.

If your ecu fuse keeps blowing. Theres either something wrong with the ecu. wiring issue. wrong size fuse.
You may have a wire grounding itself out somewhere. the harness will need to be checked. if there is a wiring
issue that could be making your car run wrong.C8-)

Agreed. A good visual inspection of the wiring is in order. ALL the wiring. Look for anything rubbing on metal, and check for insulation damage. It is time consuming, but it will be worth it in the end.

Ok, thank you so much. I will try that and see if that helps. I found out through the wiring that the ecu fuse wire is a line that goes to the main relay. So we cleaned up the wires and sautered the relay. Gonna give that a try.

Yea I think the priority is to figure out why the ECU fuse keeps blowing first, if the computer can’t function the engine will never run right no matter how many parts you throw at it.

thank you to everyone ….we found the problem. it was a bad o2 sensor, we replaced that and all is good

                    That’s all it took?
you would think that from all of the problems you were having that something else was wrong..
correct me if i am wrong but don’t o2 sensor only relay burn ratio but to the computer and then determen weather or not it is burning rick or lean?

i think there is more at fault here.
as others stated look in to the spark plugs
                    timeing check
                    oil / filter
                    and air filter
and maybe see if the air filter houeing is dirty…( the bad way)

He said the car was good. I wouldn’t suggest shotgunning more parts at a good running car.

it just seems odd that it was only an o2 sensor…
or maybe i am used to everything going to hell at once

maybe the 02 circuit is in with the ecu fuse? thanks for the update and the fixC8-)

Hey, I used to drive a 91 Accord. Going by the Chiltons book, yes, the heated O2 is on the ECU fuse, so it’s a plausible fix. Good catch, OP. Looks like there are a TON of sensors and wiring on that one fuse.

Interesting I never would have guessed that. Thanks for posting the fix and for using the ETCG forum.
