Hey guys, I’m very new to the “auto world”, and I know very little about cars, have been learning from other people for a while(especially from Eric – I really appreciate your contribution and wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart). Here’s my problem, I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra GXE, it’s been acting up lately after the maintenance service at Nissan dealer(crankshaft seal leaking founded which we fixed after the first break-down), it has broken down in the middle of the street twice, the first time, the car was smoking under the hood, then we checked and found out that the thermostat failed, so we replaced it with a new one, and my friend also helped replace the bad crankshaft seal after that. Then I drove my car for a test on highway, then it broke down again after 30 minutes (or some thing like that), and no smoke this time, one more thing is that the temp indicator pointed in the middle which means(I suppose) the engine was not overheating, and the car started again after 5 or 10 minutes. Could you guys please take a few minutes to help me, any ideas are much appreciated. Thank you very much!

sounds like you have a major air bubble in the cooling system… Anytime you open up the system excluding the radiator cap/over flow tank/expansion tank you have to bleed the system out. This video should help in that process.

Did the check engine light come on? does the car just shut off?
          What are the symptoms.

Just a thought did u check the serpine belt or pulleys maybe stuck or broken? Just a guess. Any more symptons? Some of the silly little things I check are the battery cables, my tranmission fulid, spark plugs, igions coil, cleaning the air filter, ect can causes the stalling. If u give more info., we could help.

I really appreciate you guys help, i have done a little tune-up, so im really sure the battery, belt,…are in good shape, then i was told to bring the tcar o autozone for a free checking which i did, then they found out that the crankshaft position sensor had failed, and thats why the car died abnormally, now the problem has been fixed, and btw the new sensor cost 25 bucks(if u guys didnt know yet), thank you very much for your time

Serpintine belts won’t cause this kind of an issue. Now that I think about it; a crank sensor will cause the engine to “stall” out intermitently because the computer can’t see what position the crank is in to fire what cylinder. A dirty airfiler I have never herd of stalling out a car before.but the rest of what you mentioned can cause it.

If you change the the crank sensor.I would change the cam shaft
sensor also. I would also recommend you go to Nissan and get there
                    OE parts.

It’s best to change things out in pair’s when ever possible. Same goes for spark plugs. If you don’t you won’t know when the next sensor will fail. Replacing both at the same time will make it so that you don’t break down again for the same issue just a bit down the road. Thank of it as preventative maintenance.

Nissan had a problem with both of these sensors. When I spoke
with Nissan they recommended both sensors.Due to the high problem
                          rate.
