I am new to the DIY maintenance thing. I did my first brake job about four weeks ago on my wife’s 2003 Toyota RAV4. I bought these pads & rotors:
I installed with anti-seize (based on advice on ChrisFix video) on the back of the pads and where they contact the clips. Pretty soon I developed some pretty nasty brake squeal when applying brakes in the 0-5 mph range, and particularly while turning. There’s also a bit of a squeak anytime you come off the brakes.
I disassembled everything, cleaned everything out, re-applied anti-seize, to no avail.
My next step was to remove the shims that come with the pads, and apply the red CRC Disc Brake Quiet everywhere. I applied as directed, but it did nothing to the squeal.
I am really not sure what next steps are, besides replacing the pads. Marital bliss is at stake, as my wife cannot stand the squeal.
